Costs are a hurdle every trade must clear

"Total in pips" is how far price must move in your favour just to break even. For a scalper aiming at 5 pips, a 1.5-pip cost eats 30% of every winner. For a swing trader aiming at 150 pips it barely matters. Short-term strategies need the cheapest account they can find.

Costs also raise the win rate you need. Check that with the risk:reward calculator, and add overnight costs with the swap calculator.

FAQ

How do you calculate forex trading costs?

Cost per trade = (spread in pips × pip value × lots) + (commission per lot × lots). On EUR/USD with a 0.2-pip spread and $7 round-turn commission, one lot costs $2 + $7 = $9.

Is a raw-spread account cheaper than a standard account?

Often, but not always. Compare the total: a standard account with a 1.2-pip spread and no commission costs $12 per lot on EUR/USD, against $9 in the example above. Enter both setups here to compare.

What is round-turn commission?

The commission for opening and closing one lot. Some brokers quote it per side, so double it to get the round-turn figure.
