Swap calculator
What holding a position overnight costs or earns, using your broker's swap rate.
Use the long rate for buys and the short rate for sells. Negative is a charge, positive a credit. Rates change often, so check your broker’s current figure.
Conversions use reference rates from 16 October 2026. Your broker’s live prices will differ slightly.
When swap matters
For intraday trades swap is zero. For swing trades held for days or weeks it adds up, especially on exotic pairs with wide interest-rate gaps. A trade that pays a positive swap is the idea behind the carry trade. Add swap to spread and commission with the trading cost calculator to see the full cost of a trade.
Islamic or swap-free accounts replace swap with a fixed admin fee at some brokers, so compare like with like.
FAQ
What is swap in forex?
Swap (or rollover) is interest paid or charged for holding a position past the daily rollover, usually 5pm New York time. It reflects the interest-rate difference between the two currencies plus your broker’s markup.
Where do I find the swap rate?
In MetaTrader, right-click the symbol in Market Watch, choose Specification, and read "Swap long" and "Swap short". Most brokers quote them in points per lot per night. A negative number is a charge.
Why is Wednesday swap tripled?
Spot forex settles two business days after the trade. A position held over Wednesday night settles over the weekend, so most brokers charge three nights of swap at Wednesday rollover.
